Secretariat staff

The Parole Board is based at Grenadier House, 99-105 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 2DX. The Board currently employs around 82 secretariat staff who support its work. This number has grown by around 46% since April 2004 to meet a significant increase in casework.

The objectives of the Parole Board's recruitment policy are:

  • To satisfy the Board's staffing requirements by ensuring the best match of available candidates to vacancies, thereby ensuring that high calibre staff are recruited to offer the best service to the Board.
  • To ensure that the Board's recruitment and selection processes comply with the Boards Equal Opportunities Policy through a professional approach whereby all applicants receive fair treatment throughout the entire recruitment and selection process, and this process should not only be effective, but be seen to be so.
  • To encourage the consideration of existing internal staff for vacancies in accordance with staff development and retention.

The Board makes use of a variety of external recruitment methods for secretariat staff, including:

  • Advertising in national, trade and local media

Current vacancies

We are cxurrently seeking to appoint three senior members to our Operations Team.  Operations is responsible for the processing of cases from notification by the Ministry of Justice to a hearing (oral or on the papers) by Board Members.  Last year the Board considered 31,172 cases of which 2,531 went to oral hearings.

Head of Operations and Deputy Chief Executive

Remuneration: up to £72,000 with an attractive benefits package.

Reporting to the Chief Executive.  Leads the Operations and IT Teams (approximately 70 staff) and deputises for the Chief Executive who is the accounting officer of the Board.  Key competencies include: significant senior management experience in the public sector; proven track record of strategic decision making and successful implementation of major change management projects in the public sector.

Senior Operations Managers (two posts)

Remuneration: up to £41,000 with an attractive benefits package.

Reporting to the Head of Operations.  One post will manage the teams responsible for all prisoners recalled to prison together with lead responsibility for the monitoring of performance, improvement of systems and change control processes within the Operations Team.  The second post will manage the teams responsible for all prisoners up to the point of release from prison.  Key competencies for both posts include: senior management experience in the public sector; proven track record of performance management; significant knowledge of operational management processes and case management systems.

Closing date for applications is 5pm on 23rd July 2008.  If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an assessment centre, at a venue and date to be confimed in July 2008.  Interviews for the Head of Operations role will take place on 4th and 5th August 2008 and for the Senior Operations Manager roles on 18th, 19th  and 20th  August 2008 [subject to change].
