2010 member recruitment campaign

Protecting the public is fundamental to the work of The Parole Board. The decisions we make are often difficult, sometimes controversial and always have significant impact on peoples lives.

Our 170 board members come from varied backgrounds and professions. With exceptional analytical and organisational skills and judgement, their role is to make reasoned decisions often having resolved a range of conflicting factors, to decide whether a prisoner can be safely released into the community. Members must understand these issues and make decisions about offenders who have committed the most serious sexual and violent offences. Their roles are therefore very demanding and carry considerable responsibility but members  find that this also means their work and involvement are highly rewarding.

We are now seeking to appoint a number of part-time members - people who are passionate about our work, who understand the far-reaching effect that our decisions can have and who approach their work with integrity and objectivity. We currently have specific requirements for:

  • Psychologist and Psychiatrist members minimum of 35 days per year
  • Probation members minimum of 50 days per year
  • Independent  members   approximately 2 days per week

The appointments are for an initial term of 3 years with the option to extend for a further 3 years, subject to performance.  Much of this work can be undertaken at home and in the evenings, to fit in with your other commitments. All part-time members receive fees for time spent on Board business.

For the specialist appointments, we are seeking a relevant professional registration. For independent member posts, we are genuinely open-minded as to background and experience. If you are interested in finding out more, please visit our recruitment website at www.paroleboardrecruitment.com where you will be able to access full information about the roles, likely time commitment and fees.

Applications should be made online through that website. Please call our recruitment consultants at GatenbySanderson on 0207 426 3966, only if you require the pack in a Braille, large print or other format

Closing date: Noon on Monday 22nd March 2010

The Ministry of Justice is committed to providing equal opportunities for all. There will be a transparent process overseen by independent assessors and appointments will be on merit.

This appointment process conforms with the principles and practice set out in the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
