Risk Management Policy

The Parole Board's Statement of Purpose makes clear that its daily business is in making effective risk assessments. The Board recognises that there are risks involved in the delivery of its business and that it has a duty to manage these risks effectively. This duty is to the public, members, staff, prisoners, stakeholders, partners and Parliament.

Aims of this policy

The aims of the Board's risk management policy and strategy are to:

  • Fulfil its Statement of Purpose and Overarching Aim and to further the Strategic Aims as set out in its Corporate Plan;
  • Preserve and enhance service delivery so as to increase the likelihood of the Boards Business Plan objectives being achieved;
  • Assist the Board to avoid financial loss and maintain effective control of public funds;
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations;
  • Safeguard, enhance and promote the reputation of the Board;
  • Minimise the risk of injury to members and staff arising from the delivery from the delivery of the Boards business;
  • Enable the Board to anticipate and respond swiftly and effectively to changing social, financial and legislative conditions;
  • Minimise the cost of risk management;
  • Further its equal opportunities policy.

Objectives

These aims will be furthered by the following strategic objectives:

  • Establishing clear accountabilities, roles and responsibilities within the Board;
  • Maintaining risk registers and other reporting and recording systems;
  • Acquiring and developing the necessary skills to manage risk effectively
  • Integrating risk management into the culture of the Board;
  • Identification, evaluation and cost-effective control of risks to ensure that they are eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level;
  • Raising awareness of the need for risk management by all those connected with the delivery of services
